Dancing Shows Dazzle Tv Viewers

Dancing hasn't always been seen as a particularly fashionable pastime. While it was one of the most popular forms of entertainment a few generations again, the rise in technology and cultural shifts saw the art of dancing lose popularity.

A night in a dancehall may still not be the preferred night out for today's young people, unless it's in a top nightclub, but more traditional forms of dance are making a comeback.

This surge in interest in dance seems to have a lot to do with the rise in the number of popular TV programmes about dancing and dancers, and with such shows topping ratings polls and thousands of children and adults auditioning to get a place on them; it seems that the popularity is only set to rise in coming months.

There have been plenty of programmes about dancing over the years, but it was the advent of the BBC's ‘Strictly Come Dancing' - a show that partners celebrities with professional dancers to compete for the judges' favour - that really gave people in the UK the dancing bug again. Now with seven series behind it, the format of the show has also been exported to more than 30 other countries, showing we aren't alone in our love of the dance.

The most recent addition to TV dance shows in the UK is ‘So You Think You Can Dance', a programme that challenges young dancers from all different disciplines to learn many other genres and compete against each other for the title of Britain's favourite dancer. The show has a panel of judges but, like ‘Strictly Come Dancing', the public was able to vote for its top dancers. It also enjoyed regular guest choreographers, who gave the contestants fresh dances every week.

There's also the show, ‘Got to Dance' from Sky which also features young dancers in all different genres and styles. Meanwhile, the fly on the wall documentary from London's Pineapple Dance Studio only goes to show how enamoured the public is with shows about dancing and dancers at the moment. What's more, with ‘Dancing on Ice' also giving people a taste of beautiful figure skating, there's truly something for everyone.
